Knife threat to police after tree set alight
IN CUSTODY: Man to reappear in court today
A POLICE officer has been assaulted and another was threatened with a knife during a disturbance in Oakey.
A police spokesman said officers were called to Aubigny St about 10.20pm Friday after reports a tree had been set alight on the street.
“While responding to the disturbance, a police officer was assaulted and had an object thrown at him, while another was threatened with a knife,” the spokesman said.
“The disturbance was resolved without further incident a short time later and police took three men and a woman into custody.”
He said the woman assisted police with their inquiries at the scene, but was released without charge.
A 20-year-old man was charged with serious assault, serious obstruction of police, threatening violence while armed and public nuisance.
He appeared in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Saturday before being remanded in custody to appear in the same court today.
A 22-year-old man was charged with two counts of obstructing police and an 18-year-old was charged with obstructing police and causing a public nuisance.
They are both due to appear in the Oakey Magistrates Court on September 9.
Meanwhile, Clifton police were also kept busy dealing with a separate disturbance at one of the town’s hotels.
Clifton officer-in-charge Sergeant Guy Smidt said three patrons had to restrain a 42-year-old man who refused to leave a King St pub about 12.30am on Saturday.
Sgt Smidt said the man left the scene before police arrived but was found later on Saturday and fined.
