School crew help community group

-

THE efforts of Oakey State High School’s construction crews have led to the successful completion of their latest project, helping the town’s TOMnet branch.

Students have completed a new purpose-built storage facility at the community group’s shed.

Oakey State High School’s public relations officer Joanne Evans said the school’s construction classes had made their mark on the Oakey landscape since 2008.

“Every project takes considerable time in the planning, designing, budgeting and building stages,” she said.

“They have constructed and installed new seating on the Oakey State School oval, refurbished the gallery at the showgrounds, paved the way at Oakey Hospital and constructed and installed a cubby house at the local community kindergarten.”

The students’ work can also be found throughout the school.

This work includes the brick gateways, the archive room, the quadrangle, picnic tables and computer laboratory desks.

That list is just some of the examples of their efforts.

“The contribution of Construction Skills Queensland through Mike Dwight, their dedicated trainer who has been a regular face at Oakey High over the last three years, has been significant and has resulted in several students moving into construction industry placements after finishing school.”
