It’s confusing

-

WHEN will they ever learn? As I was approaching a roundabout a large 4WD approached on my right and another vehicle on my left, they were coming towards one another.

The 4WD indicated a left turn, the other vehicle appeared to be going straight through as it didn’t indicate, the 4WD then turned right across the path of the other vehicle with that vehicle almost t-boning the 4WD.

I have seen some weird signals at roundabouts that have nothing to do with their intentions and this is one of them.

Anyone with half a brain would know that left turn signal means left, not right. I think roundabouts are the greatest invention since the motor car but these small single-lane roundabouts seem to confuse so many drivers.

If you are going straight through, why is there a need to indicate, turning left indicate left, turning right indicate right simple as that, anything else only complicates matters. Multi-lane roundabouts are a different matter but there are commonsense rules to these. God help some of the drivers here in Toowoomba if we had multi-lane roundabouts.

There has been publicity about bad drivers in Toowoomba but I find it hard to believe that any town could be worse than another.

There has also been bad press about older drivers but from my experience the younger ones need some lessons.

Most fatalities on the road are not in the older generation. I am 79 and if my driving was as bad as some of the drivers I have observed I would seriously

consider giving it up.

Patience seems to be one of the biggest problems with drivers and roundabouts are one of the places where they are really tested, with drivers sitting there not knowing when it is their turn to go at peak times and holding up a big line of traffic.

I believe every driver when renewing their licence should pass a driving test and if they fail, keep going back until they pass, keep their licence but keep going back until they know the basic rules of driving.
