Ready quip proves an ice-breaker

A humorous approach to policing

-

NEW resident to the area was making her way to work in Toowoomba on a late shift when she almost hit a donkey on the road near Spring Bluff Railway Station in the dark of night.

Being the community-minded type, she immediately pulled the car over and put in a call to police to notify them of the wayward animal.

Having recently moved from New South Wales, she was a little taken aback at the now fairly well-known sense of humour getting around in the Queensland Police Service.

“Well, we’d best get on to animal control before it makes an ass of itself,” the officer replied.

The surprised laugh she got certainly made the late shift a little easier to get through.

Bicycle blues

DAD and excited daughter decided to spend some quality time together assembling a pushbike received as a Christmas gift.

Everything was going well until daughter decided to put the seat pole into its designated hole.

Sadly, she let it go and it descended to the bottom of the hollow tub which comprised the bike frame.

“Don’t worry,” calm old dad remarked, “We’ll get it out later.”

After the bike was fully assembled, the pair then moved to putting the seat on, which proved a little hard as the seat pole was now securely snug inside the frame.

Some hours later and after much swearing, dad and daughter decided that the pole was going to stay where it was and she was not going to get to ride her new bike anytime soon.

Pair had to wait until the bike shops opened after the Christmas break when the pole was quickly retrieved and the bike could hit the roads.

Certainly, the whole exercise proved a good test for father/daughter relations.

High flyers

BASKETBALL team the Southbrook Seagulls will today spread its wings and head for the ocean in the growing franchise’s first road trip.

Their opponents, Pedalfest, are the current premiers of their respective Sunshine Coast amateur league competition.

Tip-off is scheduled for 2.30pm at Buderim today in what is sure to be a match featuring reasonable basketball and outstanding sledging.

The “gulls” are still flying high after winning their first Pittsworth Amateur Basketball Association men’s premiership.

Maintaining that momentum outside the team’s home stadium is sure to be the club’s biggest test yet.

When the chips are down, the

gulls will swoop.
