Trip to France highlights end of busy year
St Ursula’s teacher honoured to receive Endeavour Language Teacher Fellowship
ST URSULA’S French teacher David Rawson has been lucky enough to spend the first three weeks of the new year in France.
Mr Rawson was awarded an Endeavour Language Teacher Fellowship which has given him the opportunity to immerse himself in the language and strengthen his cultural knowledge.
He said news of the ELTF trip was the perfect conclusion to a busy 12 months, which followed the start of his teaching career in a new place.
Mr Rawson said he was deeply humbled to receive such an outstanding opportunity so early in his career.
“I am thoroughly enjoying my study tour so far and learning so much every day,” he said.
“I’m in Van Gogh and Cézanne territory, where every angle is the perfect vantage point for a postcard photo.
Mr Rawson said he was particularly enjoying French food.
“I'm a bit of a gourmand at heart and Provence is a culinary capital in the south of France — together, we make for a dangerous combination.”
He said the highlight so far was dining at a restaurant on Rue Mouffetard in Paris after teaching the location to his year nine students last term.
This was the teacher’s first time travelling to a French speaking country after having learnt the language since he was 10.
He said he was most looking forward to sharing what he had

learned with his students.
The ELTF award, funded by the Australian Goverment’s Department of Education, provides opportunities for practising, retraining and pre-service language teachers from Australia to improve their language and cultural skills through intensive short-term study programs.
