Golfers turn out for cause
IT WAS a perfect day to play a round of golf when Toowoomba’s business community assembled to compete for the much sought after annual Chamber Corporate Golf Challenge trophy recently.
More than 100 players from 29 teams tried to wrestle the trophy away from the previous year’s winners Clive Armitage and his Kingfisher Gardens team.
Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive officer Greg Johnson said the very best efforts of 29 teams came to naught as Mr Armitage and his marvellous playmakers Noel Jensen, Brett Boardman and Dr Garrett Fitzgerald took out the trophy again by the narrowest of margins.
He said the runner up was the Classic Recruitment team, compromising Peter Rookas, Bernie Freyling, Les Richards and Ben Lusk who vowed to come back next year to tackle the Kingfisher team.
Mr Johnson said the city’s corporate sector displayed extraordinary generosity in donating prizes for a host of competitions including straight drive, longest drive, nearest the pin, player with the most opportunities ahead, Bradman’s Award for highest score, best dressed team and runner-up and champion team.
Mr Johnson said the generosity displayed by players in donating non-perishable foods to The Chronicle’s Adopt-A-Family appeal in the annual Fill the CEO’s Great Wall from Len Patti Motors challenge was pleasing.
This year’s event will be on December 12, 2014.
