Unspoilt setting

-

PRIVACY in a bush setting with panoramic views are on offer north of Toowoomba.

Built in 1907, Anduramba Homestead near Crows Nest, was moved about 20 years ago from its original site on the corner of Margaret and Lindsay streets in Toowoomba to its current bushland setting.

The home, once called Anduramba Manor, now sits on 10 acres along Anduramba Rd, 7km from Crows Nest.

The drive through the gates and up to the circular drive among the award-winning landscaped gardens and lawns give only a hint of what is to come.

Entering is like stepping back in time as you are greeted by the original 12ft high ceilings, tongue and groove walls and timber floors.

Immediately on the left after entering is a bedroom and on the right a formal living and dining area warmed by a fireplace when needed.

Further down the hallway are two more bedrooms including one which has decor suitable for children.

There is also a large office more than big enough for two desks.

The main bathroom with claw-foot bath, vanity in the style of the period, toilet and shower end the original section of the home.

The “newer’’ and added back area has been done sympathetically with the rest of the home with the flooring sourced from a different house to match the original timber.

The addition includes the kitchen, another dining area and a large sunken living area that has an 18ft timber ceiling feature and a built-in fireplace that has blue-gum surrounds and tiles painted by Armenian women in Jerusalem.

The stunning kitchen has a timber homestead finish with stone benches, ample cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. Off it are a butler’s pantry with refrigerators and a walk-in pantry.

Down a short hallway to the main bedroom are tall storage cupboards, the doors of which came from an old school.

The large main bedroom’s ensuite has bath, shower and toilet with a separate vanity outside the walk-in robe.

Internal stairs lead down to a double car garage, another bedroom that could also be used for storage or as a sewing room and a separate storage and work area that houses tools and gardening equipment such as ride-on mower. Also downstairs is a recently completed tiled, laundry area that has shower, toilet and vanity.

A number of rooms of the home lead out onto an added veranda that runs almost all the way around.

It is from the back veranda that, as the land slopes away, the panoramic views of the bush and mountains across to Ravensbourne in the east are revealed. On a clear night the glow that is the lights of Brisbane can be seen.

The views can also be taken in from a large deck and paved gazebo.

A path from the gazebo leads to a terrace that boasts spanish tiles and is also accessed through french doors from the house. This is a cool retreat as it is on the northern side.

The property has a 22,000 gallon concrete tank and two 5000 gallon . Water can also be pumped from a dam on the fully-fenced property.

There is also a 24m x 9m machinery shed and workshop.

Anduramba Homestead is in a very natural and unspoilt location and has potential for a bed and breakfast.
