A TEENAGER accused of robbing a bottle shop while armed with a lit Molotov cocktail will remain in custody over the weekend.

Mbaraka Archibald Corstorphan, 18, spent the night in custody after being arrested in Toowoomba on Thursday and appeared before the city’s Magistrates Court yesterday.

Dressed in watchhouse-issue browns, he stood quietly in handcuffs in the court dock as his solicitor Dan Habermann told the court his client would not be applying for bail.

Mr Habermann said he was exploring possible bail addresses in Toowoomba for his client and asked that the matter be adjourned to Monday when a bail application might be made.

Police claim Corstorphan was holding a glass bottle of liquid that had been set alight when he walked into a bottle shop on Marion St, Mount Isa, about 10.50pm, December 28, last year.

He allegedly fled the shop with cash stolen from the till and a packet of cigarettes before discarding the Molotov cocktail in the nearby car park. No-one was injured in the incident.

Corstorphan has not as yet been required to enter any plea to a charge of armed robbery.

There being no application for bail, Magistrate Kay Ryan remanded Corstorphan in custody and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on Monday.
