AWARD winning wood artisan David Harriman doesn’t need to go far to find the inspiration or materials for his art.

Mr Harriman’s property near Kingsthorpe provides both for the woodworker, who has been selected as the Cobb and Co Museum’s latest feature artisan.

His work was celebrated by members of the public at the museum’s official launch on March 7.

In 2013 he won first prize at the Toowoomba Show for a six foot high log mirror hall stand with Australiana carvings and first prize for the Artisan Wheelbarrow Competition at Cobb and Co.

“I enjoyed designing new pieces and seeing them come to completion and then having somebody appreciate the time and effort that has gone into the piece,” Mr Harriman said

Cobb and Co Museum Director Deborah Bailey said the artist had developed a unique style incorporating the self-taught skills of wheelwrighting, carving and coopering and lots of character.

“Some of the items available for purchase will include a mirror made out of a hollow log, nut crackers made from horse shoes and a barrel wine rack.”

The feature artisan is a regular highlight of the Museum Shop with local artisans invited to participate and showcase their skills and products.

Mr Harriman’s creations will be on sale until April 13 and visitors will have the opportunity to see him at work on Saturday, April 5 from 10.30am until 2.30pm.
