Chance to have slice of history

-

A HOME that has been part of Toowoomba’s history for more than 100 years still retains most of the features and charm that it was built with in 1903.

Known as Kamilaroi, the four-bedroom home has pressed metal ceilings and walls, cedar doors, mostly hoop pine flooring, the original front door and decorative leadlighting.

Set back on the 2428sq m block in East Toowoomba, a path leads to an L-shaped veranda.

The main bedroom is at the front of the house on the left after entering and has a bay window, walk-in robe and two-way ensuite.

Across the hall is a drawing room where the walls have horizontal panelling and the gas fireplace has unique tiling surrounds.

A tall shelving unit was built into the drawing room and a large bay window has a built-in seat from where the front garden can be viewed.

The formal dining room has a wood-burning fireplace, is big enough to take a lounge suite and has two sets of doors that open to the front and back verandas.

A small hallway with storage leads to the second bedroom which opens onto a Juliet veranda that is big enough for a small table and chairs from which to also take in the front gardens.

Three of the bedrooms have new carpet and two have a small alcove on one side.

The main bathroom has been renovated and has a cast-iron clawfoot bath, shower, toilet and vanity. Burgundy highlights in the tiles on the floor and around the walls show the renovation was in keeping with the era of the home.

A family room with a gas heater has timber-framed windows and access out to the outside.

The large kitchen has also been renovated but a 1950s Crown wood-burning stove has been retained as has a built-in display cabinet and sideboard with shelving on top.

A spacious country-style family kitchen, recently refurbished with Piatra Grey Caesar stone benches and two-pac cabinetry, has high-quality appliances, pantry and appliance cupboard.

The kitchen is big enough to have a breakfast table and the new windows give a view of the backyard.

At the back of the house is a large deck, the centrepiece of which is a 12m saltwater pool that is gas heated, has glass panel fencing and paved surroundings.

The property has side access to two-car accommodation while a second shed houses the wood for the fireplace.

There are two water tanks on the property and many trees and shrubs.
