Red-carpet stunners
AS WE bid adieu to the world-famous film festival at Cannes, France, which gives us more than a week of stunning red carpet fashion, I had a look through the many wonderful dresses to pick my favourites.
1 Thoughts of that awful photo of Aussie star Nicole Kidman at the beginning of the festival from the Grace of Monaco movie premiere were forgotten once she stepped out later in the day in a lovely Armani Privé Spring 2014 gown. 2 Blake Lively accompanied her husband Ryan Reynolds to the festival, wearing several gorgeous dresses.
But my favourite of the festival has to be the glamorous sequined Chanel Couture gown she wore at the Mr Turner premiere. Blake is the latest celebrity to step out in the “optical illusion trend” but no-one has rocked it like she has. The dress accentuated her tiny waist and even had pockets. Now that’s what I call a dress. 3 Next up is Marion Cotillard and that “button dress”. Without a doubt, it’s the most interesting dress of the whole festival. Cotillard wore it to the photocall for the film Duex Jours, Une Nuit (Two Days, One Night). The short Maison Martin Margiela couture dress was made with a myriad of bric-a-brac, including screws, beads, buttons and bits of beer cans from Paris and Brussels. 4 Star Trek star Zoe Saldana stunned in a floor-length black and peacock green dress made out of velvet and chiffon. The dress comes from designer Jason Wu from his autumn/winter 2014 collection. 5 Jessica Chastain had her own Marilyn Monroe moment when she came to the Foxcatcher premier in a flowing purple Elie Saab Couture silk mousseline gown. She had to use her hands to hold down the dress as it flowed in the wind to prevent it from becoming more revealing. In any case, the starlet looked absolutely gorgeous.
