Alleged sex assault spurs violent attack
AN ALLEGED sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl at Darling Heights has sparked a violent reaction for which two Toowoomba men have been charged.
Police were called to a disturbance at a Darling Heights home about 9.50pm on Saturday.
Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Paul McCusker said two Toowoomba men had forced their way into the home and assaulted two other men.
Detective Senior Sergeant McCusker said the men had taken the matter of the sexual assault, which is alleged to have occurred at the home on the same evening, into their own hands.
The two have each been charged with entering a dwelling with intent as well as two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.
“Quite obviously, taking actions on the spur of the moment, as they have done in this case, led to further charges,” Det. Snr Sgt McCusker said.
He urged the community to report incidents to police rather than people taking justice into their own hands.
The sexual assault complaint is still being investigated.
The two charged men are due to front Toowoomba Magistrates Court on July 7.
Det. Snr Sgt McCusker said both assault victims did not require hospitalisation.
