Dob-in society

-

AS the dob-in society extends itself we are being encouraged to dob-in more and more people and their activities.

We are encouraged to dob-in a bikie, druggies, an illegal gun owner, and now the so-called perpetrators of domestic violence. Once domestic violence was considered to be physical violence against one’s partner, but not any more. The definition has been extended to include withholding money from one’s partner, cruelty to a pet; in short, anything that someone deems to be domestic violence. As the definition is extended more people will fall into the category of a domestic violence perpetrator.

It’s getting scary as we go down the road of the anonymous dob-in. Where has the right to confront our accusers gone? Out the door, it seems.

In the old Soviet Union people were encouraged to dob on their neighbours for politically “incorrect” statements, and the gulags were filled with prisoners for doing next to nothing. Are we here in Australia about to go down the same road?
