DALBY’S Troy Hobbs has been rewarded for a stand-out performance for Darling Downs with a spot in the South Queensland team that will contest next month’s Country Championships.

Hobbs was one of seven Downs players named in the South Queensland squad that will contest the Country Championship at Rockhampton on the June long weekend.

South Queensland will be coached by Darling Downs mentor Rob Johnston and he was glad with Hobbs’ inclusion and the strength of the squad.

“Troy was the outstanding player of the tournament a couple of weeks ago so he had to be in the team,” he said.

“I’m very happy with who’s in the team and our representation.

“We’re taking a very strong team to Rockhampton.

“I was an assistant coach with South Queensland last year and from what I can see, the team we’ve got is a lot stronger.”

South Queensland will take on Central and North Queensland at Rockhampton on June 7-8.

The South Queensland squad is made up of players from the Darling Downs, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, and it will have its only training session just the day before the carnival.
