THE trophy would be nice, but knowing his work has been in front of thousands of people in Sydney’s CBD is almost as good for Toowoomba’s Russell Andrews.

The 5th Dimension Design director and principal designer is a finalist in the prestigious Good Design Awards Commercial and Industrial category for his innovative drill planting point.

Mr Andrews and his wife Zoie will tonight celebrate their success at a gala evening when the award winners are announced in Sydney.

“We’re certainly hoping to bring back a trophy with our names on it,” Mr Andrews said.

“It’s really exciting (to be a finalist) and to know our design has been seen by a lot of people.”

Mr Andrews said being part of the Good Design Showcase was almost reward in itself, but his eye remained squarely on the trophy.

The Good Design Awards are widely considered a launch pad for new products to the Australian and global markets, which Mr Andrews said was great news for his Toowoomba business.

“To think that a business from here in Toowoomba is on the same level as global companies is fantastic,” he said.

The company, 5th Dimension Design, specialises in taking concepts submitted by clients and creating innovative and sustainable design solutions.

Mr Andrews’ client submitted a sketched concept of the Green Wing with the view to solving environmental issues faced by today’s farmers.

The young family decided to settle in Toowoomba for several reasons, including the diverse market on the business’s doorstep, and the lifestyle the regional city offered.

Mrs Andrew said it was a great place to raise their two children Jade, 9, and Eli, 4.

“We really like the lifestyle and the feel of Toowoomba,” Mrs Andrews said.

“We felt it was a great place to raise our kids, and the business was started here and we’ve built it up here.

“It is a very diverse region and we can service places out west from here.”

The company was started in Toowoomba in 2008.
