SARAH Bellars has six months to prepare to take on some of the best juniors golfers Queensland has to offer.

Bellars has earned an invitation to play in the Greg Norman Junior Masters tournament in December and is keen to hone her skills in the lead-up to the tournament.

The Year 10 Glennie School student won the Ken Leighton Memorial Golf tournament at City Golf Club earlier this month to book her place.

“I will definitely need to concentrate on improving certain parts of my game for December’s competition, and also my general fitness and core strength,” Sarah said.

She outplayed the rest of the field, which came from across south-east Queensland, at the Ken Leighton Memorial to win with a gross score of 88.

The result was somewhat unexpected but one that Bellars was proud of.

“Going into the competition I was really not expecting a win, as the field was incredibly strong,” she said.

“To actually come out on top was amazing and made all my hours and hours of practice worthwhile.

“The weather conditions for the competition were extremely challenging, with very strong winds and freezing temperatures.

had travelled from the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, and it was a tough field to compete against.”

Bellars first played golf aged nine and started taking it more seriously four years later.

She dedicates plenty of time to improving her game which is important as golf is one of those sports where it takes plenty of time to hone the craft.

“I like to practise four to five afternoons a week and play club competitions both days of the weekend,” she said.
