Dash of colour to de-stress
Uni students warm up for ‘the happiest 5km on the planet’
UNIVERSITY of Southern Queensland students are being encouraged to get running and be splattered with coloured chalk – all at the same time.
USQ is attempting to create the largest “Colour Run” team to help students find a healthy way to de-stress after assessments at Robelle Domain, Springfield Central, on Sunday.
USQ Student Services director Christie White said the Colour Run, known as “the happiest 5km on the planet”, was a unique paint race that celebrated healthiness, happiness and individuality.
“This complements the university’s initiative to promote healthy eating and lifestyles with the Student Services HealthyU Project,” Ms White said.
“What makes the Colour Run so different, besides the loud music, dancing and carnival atmosphere, is the stops along the course where runners can get doused with coloured powder.
“You don’t have to be an elite athlete, it is a chance to have some fun and de-stress before exams.”
USQ will provide a bus for Toowoomba students to meet Springfield students at the start line and the USQ social media team will be capturing photos of students taking part in the event.
USQ’s HealthyU provides students with access to online and digital services about counselling and health information and has been working with USQ’s social media team to support the communication to outreach with students.
“The purpose of HealthyU is to increase help-seeking behaviours, self-management skills and resilience,” Ms White said.
“One of the components, Steps to Success, has been designed to provide practical information and strategies to improve health and help students thrive in studies.”
