UP-AND-COMING Toowoomba opera singer Bree Meara-Hendy is taking the Queensland performing arts scene by storm.

The former St Ursula’s College student is set to dazzle local audiences later this month when she stars in the production Floods at the Empire Theatre.

Currently studying at the Queensland Conservatorium, Ms Meara-Hendy is quickly building her profile following a run of strong performances.

The mezzo-soprano said she loved the thrill of performing on stage.

“I have always loved singing and was involved in many choirs and dance groups while growing up in Toowoomba,” Ms Meara-Hendy said.

“I only took up opera when I started my degree at the Queensland Conservatorium and have grown to really appreciate it.

“My teachers at school encouraged me to study singing and I have never looked back.”

Ms Meara-Hendy’s current role as the Weather Girl in Floods is one of a number of productions the young performer has starred in recently.

“I am currently working with Outcast Performing Arts in Brisbane and have had the opportunity to take part in a number of new productions,” she said.

“It will be great to perform at the Empire Theatre again with Floods on September 24.

“Having heaps of familiar faces in the crowd is always something you enjoy as a performer.”
