Violence is never okay

-

WHEN the newspapers or magazines show happy couples on their wedding day in all their finery, I am happy too.

However, I would be happier if the groom kept his suit coat on until after the photos were taken. I’m sure the bride-to-be has hinted, pleaded, ordered, this also.

And fellas, I think on the bride’s plea, you should have a good haircut. Go even further and stand as close to the razor as possible. Many of you will be surprised at what lies underneath. Many will be better-looking. Some will be handsome. And your bride will be even happier.

After all, the brides are usually pretty, many beautiful, and have spent a lot of money and care to ensure they do present at their very best.

Life is wonderful and they will both live happily ever after. However, sadly, this is not always the case, and this is what this saga is really all about, and this, of course, applies to de-facto relationships too.

Arguments will start, often over money or the shortage of it. The old saying is, “Money is the root of all evil”. I think it should be “lack of money”. Anyway, for whatever reason, recriminations commence, accusations are made, tempers fray, voices are raised and then comes the first slap. And it may not always be from the man, either.

However, if and when it continues, the average-sized woman is no match physically for the average man. It is only the strong, larger woman who may not only hold her own, but may inflict more damage than she receives.

However, as this domestic abuse escalates, it usually becomes more violent. Physical abuse of women, the same as against children, is an absolute no-no. It is cowardly; it is dastardly; it is diabolical; it is unacceptable in any society.

Do these so-called men ever think back to when they first met this lovely girl, wooed her and won her, promised to love and cherish her for all their life? I don’t think so.

Every week in Australia, a woman is killed by her boyfriend, husband or de-facto. Distressing statistics.
