MIKE McDaniel will be inducted into the Hawaii Pacific University Hall of Fame for Basketball on October 28.

The Warwick Wildcats player and former Queensland Basketball League star captained the university team to its only NAIA National Championship win in 1993.

All 12 team members will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as the only team from Hawaii to win a national championship.

McDaniel started with the Hawaii team in 1988 and was captain for two years, including the premiership win in 1993. He trialled for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA in 1999 before moving to Australia.

“I remember Hawaii beating Oklahoma Baptist University in the NAIA final,” he said.

McDaniel will be even prouder being part of the Hall of Fame as his father Everett McDaniel is part of the University of Rhode Island Hall of Fame for gridiron.

“The Hall of Fame induction for our basketball team members was absolutely not expected,” he said.

McDaniel is looking forward to travelling to Hawaii to see all players from the 1993 team and to catch up with his mother and family who still live in Hawaii.
