SHOCKED BY ERGON’S GUESSWORK

-

What you had to say on Facebook about Ergon Energy guessing electricity bills:

Just got our bill and it was an estimate. Couldn’t read the meter because of dog they said. She is a 14-year-old maltese? Maybe it was read on a Friday afternoon and he wanted to finish early. Makes you wonder. - Julie Rampling

Yes we all know how much power we use. But that is what gets me at times. Not the dollars so much. Like when you’re away for four weeks but the bill doesn’t change. I question that one. - Alan Thomas

We do our own meter checks and call Ergon as soon as the bill comes to give them our meter reading. Last quarter alone we were overcharged $360. - Joanne Costain

Strangely enough, I live rurally and the guy comes to read the meter every time. You think they would try the guessing game with us. They must enjoy the drive Lol - Bronwyn Bearham

Our bill was a hundred dollars more and we have moved basically our entire life to another town... only camping there Mon to Fri with no washing machine, no oven use, half the hot water, etc while the house is on the market. Go figure that one Ergon. Definitely not a correct reading. - Frances Davies

Ours is usually around $600, it was well over $1000 this quarter, even with no heating as house is being renovated. Go figure! - Anthea Fleming I’ve had issues before! We had a $700 bill when our bills are normally under $300!! - Elisa Devereux The difference between an estimate and an actual reading last quarter was more than $500. Usual bills are $350. Last quarter $900. Back to $350 this quarter. Dee Mcgowan

It seems so hit and miss. You can be away for a few weeks and not use heating or cooling and the bill doesn’t seem to fluctuate it only ever goes up. - Cathy Harris-Brennan

This happened to a friend of mine in a rental a couple of years ago. After her lease was up she left and the bill followed her saying she had to back pay because the meter reader had only guessed the energy usage. My guess is no one gets a refund if the guess was wrong and they’ve paid too much. - Emily Weir

Don’t trust (the bill is correct) at all. Have had to have them come and have our meter re read as they hadn’t read it correctly. - Tracy Dann

I got the shock of my life when my power bill turned up. I’ve said it for ages that the meters aren’t read correctly. I live in units so the power box has more than one meter in it, I’m positive they get it wrong. - Paul Ryan

I cracked it at them when they told me my bill was an estimate because there wasn’t anyone available to do a reading. - Naomi Econtarino
