Eerie gift of photographs shocks mum
A FEW old photos could well be a gift from beyond.
Toowoomba mother Kathy New isn’t particularly religious or superstitious, but she says the reappearance of old photos taken by her now-deceased father is just a bit “odd”.
Last Saturday The Chronicle published a photo developed by Toowoomba photographer Linsey Walker who wanted to track down its owners.
Mr Walker bought the old roll of film from an antique store and restored three of the photos.
Mrs New came forward after her husband saw the paper and first recognised the outdoor setting before realising they were his own children, now in their early 20s and working in Toowoomba.
She said the photo was taken by her father, who died a year ago today.
“It’s the one-year anniversary of his death. He died on October 11 last year. I think he must be looking down at me saying here is your last present – better keep this photo of the kids.
“I got goosebumps. I’m not overly religious, but the timing is strange. It could have happened anytime, but it happened now,” Mrs New said.
“They were his only grandchildren and must have been about three and six at the time.”
She said the story would be one the family laughed about in years to come.
“Mr Walker gave me the prints and now they’re home. He was happy to find who they belonged to.
“All around it’s a happy ending.”
