Percussionist Jamie in Albert Hall band comp

-

JAMIE Nuss is living a dream come true, and hitting the right notes along the way.

The 25-year-old Toowoomba percussionist will make his debut as part of the Cory Band when it takes the Royal Albert Hall stage in London to compete in the British national contest this weekend.

Jamie’s father Mark said he didn’t seem nervous on the phone when they last spoke Thursday night.

“He’s as excited as anything,” the proud dad said.

“He has been a fan of the Cory Band for a few years.”

Earlier this year Jamie and his fiancee, Emma Tedford, moved to Wales, where they plan to stay for at least two years.

“He’s mingling with some great players and really enjoying it over there.

“He knew he had to leave Toowoomba because he’s done everything he could here,” Mr Nuss said.

He and Jamie played together as part of the Toowoomba Municipal Band in the orchestral pit at the Empire Theatre for at least 30 musicals.

“I’m very proud of him,” Mark said.

“Jamie went and saw the Cory Band play in Brisbane and he never dreamed he’d end up playing with them.

“Even now I keep waking up thinking it was just a dream that Jamie is playing with the Cory Band.”

Mr Nuss said he hoped to watch the 15-minute-long competition performance piece on video afterwards.

He said Jamie’s performances later in the year would be live-streamed so he could watch it at home here in Toowoomba.

The Cory Band will also record an album in November.
