RUNway run really taking off

-

NEWS of the runway fun run event seems to have travelled as far and wide as the planned new airport routes at the Brisbane West-Wellcamp airport.

With registrations now at over 1300 and climbing steadily, the Run the RUNway event is shaping up as an experience not to be missed.

Melanie Coultas from the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation is confident that numbers will double over the next week.

“We have people and families coming from right across the region, from Tenterfield in the south to Roma in the west, with enquiries from as far north as Townsville,’’ Ms Coultas said.

Greg Vincent from the Toowoomba Road Runners said that participants did not need to be dedicated runners to participate.

“We have the 7km run starting at 8am and the 3km walk at 8.15am so that whole families can join in.

“It’s going to be a fun family morning, with all proceeds going to support children with type 1 diabetes and their families via the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation.’’

While there are a lot of fun runs taking place over the next few months, this is perhaps the first and only event in Australia that will take place on an airport runway.

Registrations are open until noon on Friday, October 17, and only those who bring their e-ticket will be admitted.
