Show’s cast finds great chemistry
TOOWOOMBA’S Evan Hollis is rejoicing his evil role in the Toowoomba Philharmonic Society’s production of Elton John and Tim Rice’s musical Aida.
Mr Hollis is stepping into the role of Zozer, the chief minister of Egypt and father of Radames.
He highly anticipates his son’s succession to the Egyptian throne and does all he can to make it arrive sooner, including poisoning the Pharaoh.
The musical has it all – a love triangle between two princesses and a captain, catchy songs and dances and underlying evil plots.
“There’s never a dull moment,” he said.
The musical’s director Cherie Vera said the Toowoomba Philharmonic Society had broken with tradition this year and picked the more modern musical to perform.
“We’ve got all local artists performing, which is great,” she said.
“We’re all about encouraging people to follow their dreams.”
Mr Hollis said the camaraderie between the cast was great and as they were all very much new to the musical world, they worked well together as they were all in the same boat. He said the relationships between the cast allowed them to step into their roles and be creative.
Chorus ensemble members Sam Kennedy and Natalie McLeod said they were both enjoying their experiences – especially the dance routines.
There will be three performances of Aida at the HumeRidge Church of Christ in Toowoomba on Friday, October 17, and Saturday, October 19.
