Poles upset Germans

-

POLAND has caused one of the biggest upsets in recent times, beating world champion Germany 2-0 in a Euro 2016 qualifying group match.

Germany, which had never been beaten by Poland, had not lost in 33 previous qualifiers – a run dating back to 2007.

Its last loss was a 3-0 home defeat by the Czech Republic in October 2007.

Arkadiusz Milik opened the scoring in the 51st minute, before Sebastian Mila completed the historic result just before the start of injury time.

Poland, which leads the group, takes on Scotland tomorrow night.

In other games, Robbie Keane scored a hattrick inside the first 20 minutes as the Republic of Ireland crushed minnows Gibraltar 7-0.

It was the second consecutive 7-0 loss by Gibraltar in its first campaign at the top level.

Keane’s three goals took his international tally to 65 in 136 matches.

He has now scored a record 21 goals in European qualifiers, one ahead of Turkey’s Hakan Sukur.

Meanwhile, Denmark could only manage a 1-1 draw with Albania, while Romania and Hungary also drew 1-1.
