Revered Buddy Holly performer brings the legend back to life

-

BUDDY Holly was an innovator.

He pioneered and popularised rock’n’roll as we know it today.

To celebrate, Buddy: In Concert, 60 Years of Buddy Holly, starring Scott “Buddy” Cameron, is coming to Toowoomba.

Buddy Holly’s career began in 1956 and spanned only a few short years but what came with it continues to make a lasting impact on popular music, influencing acts including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Elton John, among others.

Inducted into the hall of fame in 1986, (coincidentally the same year Cameron was born), the Texan was ranked by Rolling Stone magazine at number 13 on its “100 Greatest Artists” list, having written some of history’s greatest rock’n’roll songs.

Cameron is no stranger to portraying Holly, having done so for more than a decade to many a rapturous crowd.

He is one of the most recognised Buddy Holly performers in the world, receiving rave reviews for his portrayal of the 1950s legend in the smash-hit musical from 2005 through to 2009 and, to this day, continues to don the trademark horn-rimmed glasses, the ever-so-engaging and charismatic figure and a lilting vocal hiccup in many other concert productions.

He is recognised by members of Holly’s own family and the “Peggy Sue” as being the closest thing today to the legend of Holly.

Buddy: In Concert, 60 Years of Buddy Holly will see Cameron perform some of rock’n’roll’s greatest songs from across the ’50s and ’60s, from artists including Elvis Presley and Bill Haley, among others.

Following a short intermission, Cameron will get his rave on performing the very best of Buddy Holly’s catalogue of hits.

Expect to hear the hits Peggy Sue, That’ll Be the Day, Oh Boy, Maybe Baby and many more.

Catch this great performance at the Empire Church Theatre on Friday, October 9.
