LAUGH at their jokes - but don’t forget their message.

University of Southern Queensland second year acting students took on the ultimate battle of the sexes story when they performed Lysistrata at the USQ Arts Theatre.

The play, written by Aristophanes, is arguably the most famous from the ancient world and pits women against men.

Director Matt Scholten said the play written in the fourth century by Aristophanes was about a group of women who decided to withhold sex from their husbands in a bid to create peace.

“It’s a sexual story but it goes beyond that,” he said.

While the play was funny and hilarious on the surface, it touched on issues people were unwilling to talk about:

gender, war and peace.

The play was performed on May 12, 13 and 14.
