School students find out what life is like at USQ

-

TOOWOOMBA Year 11 student Israel Escano already knows he would like to pursue a career in biomedicine when he finishes high school.

The University of Southern Queensland Student Experience Day, held in Toowoomba on May 13, was the perfect opportunity for him to find out more about relevant programs.

Mr Escano joined more than 400 senior students from high schools across the Darling Downs and interstate to experience a day in the life of a USQ student.

“For me this is a very worthwhile event as I am looking at going to university,” the Christian Outreach College student said.

“I am not sure about specialisation yet but looking at commencing my studies with a Biomedical Science degree here at USQ.”

The event saw Year 11 and 12 students from across the region spend the day on campus, meet with lecturers and current university students, and attend various interactive sessions on study areas, careers and pathways.

Vice-chancellor and president Professor Jan Thomas welcomed the students to USQ Toowoomba.

“Moving from high school to university can be a big step, and events like USQ Student Experience Day give students the opportunity to have their questions answered,” she said.
