The Voice WIN, 7pm

Sonia Kruger is flying solo as this year’s host of The Voice, after handsome Irish co-presenter Darren McMullen exited the stage after last season, joining – you guessed it – another music show (he’s hosting the upcoming The Big

Music Quiz). While many might be missing the dulcet tones of his accent, Sonia is more than at home taking the reins and steering this musical ship to its destination. She also brings a welcome nurturing note to proceedings. While scoops are thin on the ground when it comes to what we can expect this season, we should expect some high notes – literally.

MOVIE: Captain America: The Winter Soldier 7MATE, 8.30pm, M (2014)

Many of us might be suffering from comic book fatigue, but this Marvel Studios undertaking is a solid contribution that offers a fresh slant. Bursting at the seams with its cavalcade of superheroes and wellknown stars including Scarlett Johansson, Emily VanCamp, Robert Redford, Samuel L. Jackson and even Aussie Callan Mulvey, Captain America:

The Winter Soldier takes on the pleasing guise of a political thriller. Chris Evans returns as do-gooder Steve Rogers, who finds himself frustrated by the secrecy of his superiors at SHIELD.

DNA Nation SBS ONE, 8.30pm

This is genealogy on steroids, and it’s touching and funny to boot. We all know the standard format of shows such as

Who Do You Think You Are – trace back your family history a few generations to see what strange and compelling things are waiting to be found. But DNA Nation, premiering tonight, has much grander ambitions. We follow RocKwiz presenter Julia Zemiro, swimming champion Ian Thorpe and veteran actor Ernie Dingo as they go on a journey tracing their ancestry through more than 200,000 years. Tonight, they head towards the Serengeti plains in northern Tanzania to trace the beginnings of humankind.

MOVIE: Kung Fu Panda 7MATE, 6.40pm, PG (2008)

This high-concept entry is one of the finest in the computer-animated genre. Jack Black showcases his goofy charm as the voice of sweet but ungainly panda Po. Po’s fantasy of becoming a martial arts warrior incredibly comes true when a wise elder inexplicably anoints him as the “Dragon Warrior” – the kingdom’s so-called chosen one. Under the tutelage of his gruff master, Shifu (Dustin Hoffman), Po takes the tentative steps to becoming a kung fu hero, training for battle against mountain cat Tai Lung (Ian McShane), who has broken out of prison. With the mix of warmth, energy and action on offer, this is definitely a knockout combination.
