Car community rallies to help mate in need
Cruise 4 Richie hopes to help steer friend to better life
TOOWOOMBA man Richard Brumby is going through hard times after his leg was amputated following a medical issue.
But his friends in the Toowoomba car community want him to know that he’s not alone.
Jeremay Hooper has organised the Cruise 4 Richie event to raise money which will help his Mr Brumby adjust to life after the operation.
Mr Hooper is a member of Toowoomba Car Scene, a group which meets fortnightly to talk about all things car related.
He said most of the members knew of Mr Brumby - a manager at Bursons Auto Parts because of his connection to the car scene in the city.
“He’s been around the car scene for over 12 years and looked after a fair few blokes that I know,” he said.
At 11am on Sunday, June 26 a group of car enthusiasts will drive from the Kearneys Spring Softball Fields to the Toowoomba Showgrounds.
Once there they will take part in a show and shine competition and enjoy a barbecue.
His sister, Brenda Brumby, said she was taken aback by the generosity of the club.
“This event has let Richard and me know that we actually mean something to the community,” she said. “It’s just been amazing and has given us the strength to keep moving forward.”
Ms Brumby said the financial help would be used to modify her brother’s home.
“There’s a long journey ahead of us to enable him to live a relatively normal life.
“It just goes to show the automotive guys are a close knit community and have hearts of gold. This is a selfless act.”
Despite losing his leg to a medical condition – the cause of which remains unknown – Mr Brumby remains upbeat.
He’s encouraging people to focus on the little things in life.
The use of the showgrounds was donated by the Toowoomba Show Society.
Residents from Toowoomba are encouraged to attend the event, with all proceeds to help Mr Brumby.
