Victory welcomes back Tomizawa from Korea
Nolan also chalks up two winners
NOZI Tomizawa enjoyed a long-awaited win at Clifford Park when he piloted outsider Gallivanter Cat to a win on Saturday night.
Tomizawa took up a riding opportunity in Korea Republic in 2014 and returned to riding in Toowoomba last month.
He was back in the Clifford Park winner’s circle on Saturday night after partnering $21 hope Gallivanter Cat to a three-quarter length win in the Steve Kauter Electrical Ratings 0-62 Handicap (1880m).
Gallivanter Cat set the pace in the race and managed to hold on for her second career victory for trainer Tony Sears.
She held off a late charge from $2.80 favourite Temujin Kahn, with Rosador ($5) and Charles The Third ($7) dead-heating in third a quarter length further back.
Gallivanter Cat provided the high point of the night for Sears as he came close to enjoying a massive night.
Two of his runners also finished second with another two third in what was a strong night for his stable.
Trainer Michael Nolan came close with Temujin Khan finishing behind Gallivanter Cat on what was a big night for his stable nevertheless.
Nolan runner Greyt Start ($2.40) was unable to feature in the placings in race one, finishing fourth in the Queensland Specialist Physicians Two-Year-Old Handicap (1050m), with Cambooya Rock ($2.25fav) emphasising his promise with the win.
Nolan didn’t have long to dwell on that result as Rough Eddie ($4.60) took out the Explore Property Class 1 Handicap (1050m) with apprentice Hannah English on board. Sears had $4.20 favourite Matildare second in this race.
Meanwhile Triple Jeopardy also saluted with jockey Skye Bogenhuber in the saddle in the Hamblin Building Class 2 Handicap (1310m) in race four).
But the night didn’t end well for English after her earlier victory as she lost her mount Kid Cruize in the same race.
