Rain reduces sale numbers

Toowoomba cattle

NUMBERS decreased by 696 to total 407 head at the sale.

Numbers fell dramatical­ly following the return to some useful falls of rain over most parts of the supply area.

The very small yarding contained a wide variation in quality across all classes.

Buyer attendance was generally good, however numbers were too small for some to operate.

Prices for young light weight cattle returning to the paddock experience­d some further price improvemen­ts of 9c and up to 20c/kg on steer calves.

Medium and heavy weight yearling steers and heifers to feed also lifted in price.

Exports slaughter descriptio­ns of heavy grown steers, bullocks and cows received some small improvemen­ts of 3c to 5c/kg.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 384.2c with mixed sex calves averaging 338c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to 372.2c with most around 335c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 330c to average 323c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers mostly sold over 300c and made to 317.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged close to 297c with some to 304.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers made to 308.2c and a few bullocks made to 307.2c to average 303c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 227c and 3 scores 240c while a handful of good heavy cows averaged 259c and made to 269.2c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 268c/kg.

Dalby cattle

NUMBERS increased by 15 to total 3824 head at the sale.

The number of stock penned remained virtually unchanged from the previous week’s level.

A full panel of buyers was present and pushed prices to record levels for feeder classes and full mouth bullocks while all other cattle generally improved in price.

Light weight yearling steers averaged 9c dearer, however the light weight heifers improved by over 20c/kg.

Yearling steers to feed lifted in price by 15c to 30c and yearling heifers to feed averaged 16c/kg dearer.

Heavy grown steers and bullocks improved by 10c to 14c/kg.

Cow prices also lifted to a higher level with average prices increasing by 5c to 13c/kg.

Calves returning to the paddock averaged 319c and made to 340c/kg.

A large supply of light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 341c and made to 362.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed mostly sold around 335c with some to 348.2c/kg.

Heavy weights yearling steers to feed sold to a new high level of 348c with most around 327c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers consistent­ly sold around 310c to 316c with some to restockers reaching 326.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 322.2c to average 309c and heavy weights to feed made to 320.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers made to 323.2c to average 313c while a consignmen­t of full mouth bullocks from Birdsville sold to a record price of 330.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 221c and made to 237.2c/kg.

A large supply of good heavy cows made to 280.2c to average 270c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 273.2c/kg.

Roma Store

NUMBERS decreased by 3959 to total 1791 head at the sale.

A small yarding of store cattle were penned after widespread rainfall across south-west Queensland over the weekend.

The wet weather brought plenty of optimism to the market and prices remained firm across the board on last week’s high price returns.

Light weight yearling steers gained a further 21c, while light weight yearling heifers increased 7c/kg on average.

All the usual feedlot buyers were present and operating.

Light weight yearling steers topped at 398c and ranged between 372c and 379c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed earned to 350c and averaged 337c, up 2c, while those returning to the paddock reached 344c and averaged 338c/kg, unchanged in price.

Light weight yearling heifers sold to 366c and ranged between 276c and 327c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 338c and averaged 332c, up 16c/kg.

Bullocks sold between 305c and 316c/kg. The 3 score medium weight cows earned to 278c and averaged 255c, up 21c, while heavy weight 4 score cows topped at 283c and ranged between 266c and 276c/kg.

Heavy bulls sold to 276c/kg.

Moreton Grain Assist

AGENTS yarded 504 head of cattle at Moreton on Tuesday. Values continue to rise for all descriptio­ns as processors and buyers battle to get numbers. Overall quality of the yarding was surprising­ly good and sold accordingl­y.

Yearling heifers account Symbol D Grazing, Woolmar, sold for 312.2c weighing 255kg to return $1108. L Stubbings, Dayboro, sold droughtmas­ter weaner steers for 337.2c weighing 225kg to return $758.

Pasture heifers account K and D Hayes, Brightview, sold for 312.2c weighing 500kg to return $1561. Pasture fed steers account Talora Pty Ltd, Gatton, sold for 343.2c weighing 475kg to return $1698. Karreman Quarries sold charolais pasture ox for 316.2c weighing 735kg to return $2324.

M Newton sold feeder heifers for 320.2c weighing 380kg to return $1219. Talora Pty Ltd sold shorthorn feeder steers for 343.2c weighing 495kg to return $1698. Retchlag Dairies, Kilcoy, sold friesian cows for 236.2c weighing 610kg to return $1440. B,L, A and A Dunn sold droughtmas­ter cows for 248.2c weighing 325kg to return $806.

Sticklen Brothers, Gatton, sold charolais cows for 274.2c weighing 655kg to return $1796. Charolais bull account L, P and T Haynes, Linville, sold for 276.2c weighing 905kg to return $2499.

Toowoomba pigs

NUMBERS remained steady at 126 on Monday. Out of spec and weight pigs where hard to sell with pigs in the weight range selling well with sows firm and boars dearer. Store pigs in the right weight range sold on par to previous sales. Quotations: prime pork $246, prime light bacon $225, prime bacon $220, boars $96, sows to $280, forward stores $148, weaners $110 and suckers $82.

Warwick sheep

June 15 report:

AGENTS yarded 1830 lambs and hoggets and 1280 sheep at the weekly sale. In a larger yarding of both sheep and lams, the market was dearer for export heavy lambs and firm on lighter lambs. In a lesser quality yarding of mutton, the market was firm to a shade easier. Quotations: crossbred lambs 51-55kg $134-$153, 46-50kg $130-$142, 41-45kg $130-$139, 35-40kg $115-$130, 57.8kg $187, crossbred hoggets 69kg $118 (shorn).
