Vital air service helps thousands
WITH 288 guests attending the RFDS Darling Downs Voluntary Auxiliary fundraising luncheon at the region’s new airport, and a total of 296 event tickets sold, last Saturday’s function proved very successful.
The program included a presentation by the co-founder of Aussie Helpers Brian Egan, along with the auction of donated artworks and raffle items.
Aussie Helpers assist farming families in a variety of ways including food distribution, and by providing emotional and psychological support when needed.
Mr Egan and his wife Nerida travelled from Charleville to attend the popular annual event which draws friends together from across South West Queensland.
Representing the Royal Flying Doctor Service Queensland Section, General Manager - Marketing and Fundraising Ian Finalyson spoke about the continued good work of the Service and some of its future plans.
“The RFDS has provided its vital healthcare service to more than 95,000 people across Queensland over the past year,” Mr Finlayson said.
He outlined some of the future plans for the Service including the imminent introduction of a new aircraft to its aviation fleet the B350C Super King Air.
“The aircraft has the capacity to transport up to three stretcher patients, simultaneously, and possesses increased distance travel capacity enabling it to fly non stop between Brisbane and remote regional locations such as Cairns and Mt Isa.
“Events such as Saturday’s luncheon will enable the RFDS to help fund the purchase of vital life-saving medical equipment,” he said.
