Specialty shops for new centre
DEVELOPERS have scaled back plans for a supermarket in Kingsthorpe and will build more speciality retail stores due to competition from a planned Foodworks.
Kingsthorpe Central Pty Ltd had lodged plans for a two-stage development that would include a supermarket and nine speciality shops on Gowrie St, Kingsthorpe.
Those plans were given approval by Toowoomba Regional Council in October 2009.
Now a new application has been lodged that includes a scaled-back supermarket.
Developers said another planned supermarket complex with a Foodworks, coffee shop and bakery on Kingsthorpe-Haden Rd, which were recently granted approval by the council, necessitated the reduction.
Developers said the competing supermarket,
