Chamber of Commerce GM pulls pin after a year

THE Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce will spend the New Year looking for its fourth business leader since 2014.

General manager Leanne Gillam has quit, less than 12 months after replacing former CEO Helen Jentz.

Chamber president Joy Mingay said the board had accepted Ms Gillam’s decision to “follow a different path”.

“The board and I wish Leanne well in her future endeavours and thank her for her efforts during a very busy 2016,” Mrs Mingay said.

Mrs Mingay said all inquiries from members and sponsors should go through the board while the chamber searched for another GM.

“In the meantime, it is business as usual for chamber,” she said.

“We have a lot of exciting events and activities planned for 2017.”

Ms Gillam’s departure from a role she started in January means the chamber has gone through three GMs/CEOs in as many years.

Her predecessor Helen Jentz replaced long-term CEO Greg Johnson in June 2014.

She had been in charge for only 18 months.

At the time of her arrival, Ms Gillam said she was ready for the challenges of the role.

“I think the role of general manager, and not CEO, works in my favour. I can work more with small business and work on strategic planning,” she said in January.

Ms Gillam, when contacted yesterday, declined to make any comment.
