Miners’ moustaches get people talking

-

NEW Acland miners made a mighty donation to the Movember Foundation after a huge month of fundraising to raise awareness about men’s health issues.

New Acland’s Health and Wellness Committee challenged their colleagues at New Hope’s Corporate Office, Jeebropilly Mine and Queensland Bulk Handling operations to collectively raise a whopping $18,800 for men’s health research.

Cambooya’s Steven Frost led the New Acland Movember team and said growing a moustache was a great way to spark conversation on site about men’s health.

“Our moustache’s really got crews talking about men’s health and the importance of regular health checks,” he said.

“Men aren’t particularly good at talking about this type of stuff so we used our existing health and wellness program to focus in on men’s health issues during our monthly health and wellness talks.

“We were really grateful to have the Toowoomba Prostate Cancer Support Group come in and help us learn about the early warning signs of prostate cancer and how to get checked.”

The money raised by New Hope employees will go towards funding research into prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
