Who is Team of the Year?

-

TEAM success is often the best achievement in sport.

It takes a lot to go right for a team to be victorious, so winning a premiership is quite an achievement.

In the lead-up to Christmas, we will highlight some of the big performers and events in Darling Downs sport in 2016 with our year in review reader polls.

Today we have a look at contenders for Darling Downs Sport Team of the Year.

Dalby had a great season in rugby union’s Risdon Cup taking out the minor premiership on the way to beating defending premier Goondiwindi 21-15 in a narrow Downs Rugby grand final for the Wheatmen’s first A grade title since 2004.

That premiership feeling

is something the Newtown men are accustomed to after winning their fourth-straight Toowoomba Hockey grand final with a 2-0 triumph over Red Lion.

Toowoomba Hockey grand final day was memorable as well as the Norths women took out the top grade Garden City title on top of the Toowoomba-Ipswich intercity crown.

Pittsworth made 2016 even more of a year to remember when the Danes claimed the TRL minor premiership and premiership double in the 50th year of the club.

And while they enjoyed one grand final win, the Wests cricket team savoured two title wins as Twenty20 and one-day champions of Toowoomba Cricket.

They also made the inaugural Harding-Madsen Trophy intercity final featuring Toowoomba and Ipswich teams and are well-placed in the Toowoomba T20 competition this season.
