WITH the excitement and busyness of Christmas officially over and just New Years to go, that holiday boredom is bound to kick in.

Here are some great ideas to keep the children entertained during the rest of the school break ... and to keep your sanity.

The local cinemas have quite a few movies on show for all ages during school holidays.

You can even become part of the cinema loyalty program to earn free movie tickets and get discounts.

Best of all, you can find another movie on at the same time and enjoy much-needed ‘me-time’, or go to a cafe nearby instead. Just in time for the school holidays, this facility has opened a laser tag area as well as the bowling alley and games arcade.

The open-plan, bright laser tag arena is fully themed to attract younger players and can hold a maximum of 40 people.

With the latest technology in laser tag equipment, the weight of it is half what it used to be as well.

Find the centre at 204 Herries St.

Now home to two beautiful giraffes, Darling Downs Zoo is the perfect family day out.

There are also macaws, crocodiles, monkeys, llamas, marmosets, snakes, baboons, lions and many more animals.

For school holidays the zoo will be open seven days a week, 9am to 4pm with last admissions at 3pm.

Find the zoo at the corner of Gatton-Clifton Rd and Baines Rd Pilton, or visit the website darlingdownszoo.com.au for more details. For older kids, freshening up their bedroom can be fun and easy — as well as an inspiration for the fresh start of an upcoming new school year of homework.

Let them move their desk and bed around a little, freshen up the desk or hang a few new pictures.

Encouraging them to tidy up in a fun way never hurt either.

A visit to the local public pool can keep kids and adults of all ages entertained.

If you don’t feel like leaving your own home, why not turn on the sprinkler in the backyard and let the kids run through it?

There are many water-play games for the backyard, such as water balloons, sponge ball fights and water gun wars.

You can find many more ideas by performing a simple internet search.

During cooler parts of the day, parks can keep kids entertained for hours.

There are skate parks for the teens and playgrounds for the little ones to keep everyone happy.

Don’t forget a hat and sunscreen, and maybe some snacks as well.

Several parks allow your furry family member in provided they are kept on a leash, so bring them along for the fun as well.
