Toowoomba apprentice Emma Ljung helped put a wretched career year behind her in devastating fashion with a sizzling Clifford Park riding display on Saturday.

Ljung continued her successful comeback to the saddle this month from her second 2016 injury break with wins aboard Gallivanter Cat, Apple Jack, Captain’s Angel and Thin Disguise.

Gallivanter Cat added to a profitable week for Toowoomba trainer Tony Sears with an all-the-way half-length win over race favourite Haradify in the Thanks John & Shirley Kelly Class 4 Handicap (1625m).

Apple Jack added to a bleak day for Christmas Eve favourite backers when he arrived in the final bounds of the Neil Mansell Transport Colts, Entires and Geldings Class 1 Handicap (1000m) to down odds-on favourite Jakuta for Deagon trainer Anthony Nutley.

Ljung delivered punters some much needed relief with a pick-up ride from ill colleague Beau Appo on favourite Captain’s Angel who clung on for a short-head win from debutant Bred For Luck in the UBET QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1050m).

Thin Disguise, another early Appo ride, completed a winning double on the seven-race card for trainer Ben Currie with a fast-finishing victory in the Queensland Electrical Solutions Class 2 Handicap (1300m).

Jockey Nozi Tomizawa helped stem the Ljung onslaught with wins aboard outsider Ruby Guru in the Key Sun Zinke Maiden Plate (1200m) and Puff’s Girl in the Hannas Benchmark 75 Handicap (1000m).

Ruby Guru resumed from a four-month spell to down stablemate Spanish Fella.
