TEVOR GODFREY added to a rough day for punters when he produced former southerner Clever Buttons for an upset win in the F & M Class 1 .

THE RIDE

EMMA LJUNG'S proved to be in a Christmas Eve class for her own with four winners and two seconds on the card.

FROM THE STAND

Race 1: Haradify was easy to lay and the money came at 2.50 including one bet of $800. Heavenly Mum was hard to lay. Gallivante­r Cat got to the good odds of 7.00 on track and paid only 6.10 on the tote.

Race 2: The owners were on track to back Caption Leo at 11.00. There was specking for Irish Eyes at 5.50. Early favourite Temujin's Rule was hard to lay and got to 4.00 on track. Ruby Guru was specked at 11.00.

Race 3: Punters wanted only Jakuta here and the 1.40 did not last long. There was one $1200 bet at that price. Bookies thought they were done when home steamed Apple Jack and Emma Ljung to give them an early Xmas present. Apple Jack started at 12.00 and paid 6.90 on the tote. Race 4: There was specking for Sweet Savannah at 4.00 with one bet of $400. There was some pre-post money for Bred For Luck. Captain's Angel supporters took the 3.30 to give the bookies a break-square race. Race 5: There was early specking for Sugar City at 7.00. The big money was on Penhale Pride with the 2.10 going off quickly. There was one bet of $1200 at 2.00 and smaller cash bets sent Penhale Pride out the most heavily backed runner all day. Punters thought they were home and along came Clever Buttons to save bookies Race 6: The early money was on I'lltellyous­oon and the 3.00 went off quickly. Invitto was hard to lay. Puff's Girl saw good money on track with one $500 eachway bet at 7.00 giving bookies a losing race. Race 7: The Currie Army was cashed up from Captain's Angel and stepped into the last favourite, Thin Disguise, taking the 3.20 and sending the bookies home small losers.
