Dumesny set for return

Sprintcar ace on road to Toowoomba

-

After a five-year absence, the legendary Max Dumesny will return to Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway this Saturday as part of The Chronicle Chase round.

The three-times Australian sprintcar champion claimed two World Series Sprintcars events in Toowoomba prior to the introduction of the banking just over five years ago, but has run only once on the reshaped track.

“It’s always been a fun place, but when it was banked it got faster, so I’m looking forward to getting back up there and having some fun,” Dumesny said.

“It was always a great place to go back to when we were doing World Series so it will be great to catch up with some old friends and fans.”

Dumesny will return to the Charlton venue chasing the $10,000 winner’s prize money purse as part of The Chronicle Chase.

But he will be flanked by fellow interstate challengers including his sons Mitch and Matthew.

Reigning Darley Challenge winner Shaun Dobson is also eagerly anticipating his second visit to the “Hi-Tec Hi-Banks”.

“I’ve been watching the rounds on ClayPerView at Toowoomba and the place looks mint,” Dobson said.

“So I’m really keen to get up there and get some more USC Chase points.”

When asked about his chances of taking the top step this Saturday, Dobson was quick to give credit to his new crew chief Shane Finch for his new-found confidence and landmark Darley Challenge win.

“I’ve got a great car every time I get in it thanks to Finchy, and to get a big win so quickly in our partnership is massive, because we really have a long-term plan before we expect things to really gel,” the Tasmanian said.

“So we’re heading in the right direction and that’s been great already.”

The Chronicle Chase will be backed by an impressive trio of Queensland Titles, with late models, mod lites and lightning sprints all contesting their state crowns.

Racing begins at 5pm. For more details, check out www.toowoomba speedway.com or the Hi-Tec Oils Speedway Facebook page.

Tickets are at the gate from 3pm or at speedwaytickets.com.au
