Family’s last hope for loving dad
A TOOWOOMBA family is hoping a trial drug could save their terminally-ill father.
Bank of Queensland manager Sean Weldon was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2015.
Over the past two years the cancer spread throughout his whole body.
His daughter Sian Weldon said a trial drug with a type of immunotherapy could save his life.
“It first started in his kidneys which meant surgery to have one removed and at that point we thought he was on the road to recovery,” she said.
“Dad then began to have chemotherapy and even after trying numerous treatments and drug trials it wasn’t until just recently we were told the devastating news that it has now spread to his bones.”
Ms Weldon said the trial drug would cost about $1400 a week.
“Dad has come so far but
the road ahead is long and tough,” she said.
“Six weeks ago he became bedridden and has been unable to work.
“I am heartbroken. It is so hard to see your father go downhill so quick. Dad is such a strong person and the most amazing father and grandfather.”
The family has set up a
GoFundMe account which has already raised almost $4000.
The money raised will go towards the trial drug, transportation costs and everyday living expenses.
Ms Weldon said the trial drug was the family’s last hope for her father’s recovery.
“We are running out of
options,” she said.
“Without treatment, doctors have given dad 12 months to live.
“My goal is for dad to get this drug and be cancer free. Dad is only 54 and has many years ahead of him.
“My mum is not herself. We want dad to be here with us.”
The trial drug will be
administrated by Dr Andrew Hill at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
