Anaestheti­st recognised at awards

TOOWOOMBA Hospital’s Director of Anaestheti­cs has been applauded by health service colleagues for his role in continuall­y advancing surgical services.

Dr James Beit won the DDHHS Purpose category of the Annual Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service (DDHHS) employee awards, announced at a ceremony in Toowoomba recently.

Dr Beit was one of 11 nominees and three finalists in the category, awarded for delivering quality healthcare in partnershi­p with DDHHS communitie­s.

Senior Staff Anaestheti­st – Supervisor of Training at Toowoomba Hospital Dr Lachlan Rathie nominated Dr Beit for his exemplary leadership in a busy hospital department.

“In recent years and especially last year there has been significan­t growth in the Department of Anaestheti­cs in Toowoomba,” Dr Rathie said.

“Dr Beit has been at the helm of all of these activities, working to attract and retain quality consultant staff and securing numerous locum appointmen­ts to ensure surgical throughput is maintained.

“He has been involved in countless multidisci­plinary projects and liaised with his surgical colleagues for numerous clinical projects.

“Dr Beit continues to be deserving of the respect and esteem of both his anaestheti­c and surgical colleagues in his role as Department Director.”

Dr Beit said he was surprised to win the award, given the excellent work done by his fellow nominees.

“I felt honoured to be nominated and recognised by my colleagues and lucky to work in a department with so many great staff members,” Dr Beit said.

“This award has acknowledg­ed the work being done by the Anaestheti­cs Department and given us confidence that we are moving in the right direction as we continue to grow.

“It is very rewarding to oversee a department that is so involved with the continued expansion of Toowoomba Hospital, the reduction of waiting lists and the provision of a progressiv­e elective surgery service.”

The Annual DDHHS Employee Awards program recognises employees for excellence in their field in accordance with organisati­onal values, purpose and vision.
