Travelling scholarships available for crop research doctorates
THE NSW Department of Primary Industries is calling for the next generation of crop researchers to apply for scholarships to support and encourage them to expand their studies and international networks.
The Farrer Memorial Travelling Scholarships allow future leaders to research global best practice and see how other countries are managing challenges in their primary industries.
The scholarships assist postgraduate students enrolled for a PhD in any aspect of field crop research.
Students are provided with the opportunity to attend and present at an international conference, as well as visit research centres.
Last year’s scholarship winners travelled to destinations including France, Japan, Switzerland and Korea, examining high-level research relating to sorghum, barley, medicinal cannabis and biochar.
Travelling scholarships can be awarded up to the value of $5000.
Applicants must be a permanent resident or citizen of Australia and be enrolled in a PhD.
Selection will take place to allow travel to be undertaken between July this year and June 30, 2018.
Applications, including a covering letter, must be lodged through the dean of the respective student’s faculty of agriculture to reach Dr Alison Bowman, Secretary, Farrer Memorial Trust, Locked Bag 21, Orange, NSW 2800, or submitted by email to farrer.memorialtrust@dpi.nsw.gov.au no later than Friday, June 2.
