Mixed bag around region

TOOWOOMBA CATTLE

THERE was a small reduction in numbers and overall quality was very mixed.

A fair panel of buyers was present and operating, however prices tended to vary across a number of categories.

Young light weight yearling steers to restockers improved in price, while medium weight yearling heifers to the local trade market sold to a cheaper trend.

The smaller younger line up of heavy grown steers to export slaughter improved in price.

Good cows sold close to the previous week’s level while the plain condition classes were dearer in places.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 416.2c with most of the mixed sex calves around 341c/kg.

A few vealer heifers to feed made to 330.2c to average 323c/kg.

Well-bred light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at a top of 426.2c to average 375c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers to feed for the domestic market made to 345c to average 338c/kg.

A handful of medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 327c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers generally sold around 307c with sales to 334.2c/kg.

A fair supply of supplement­ary fed medium weight yearling heifers sold to the local trade market at 281c with some to 307.2c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling heifers to the trade made to 294.2c to average 283c/kg.

Young heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 294.2c to average 290c and a few bullocks made to 285.2c/kg.

Plain condition cows returning to the paddock made to 216.2c to average 215c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows to processors averaged 203c and made to 211.2c/kg. Good cows averaged 224c with some to 229.2c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 273.2c/kg.

MORETON CATTLE

AGENTS Boyd, O’Brien, Bartholome­w reported a yarding of 462 head of cattle at Moreton on Tuesday.

In a rain reduced yarding all values lifted with strong competitio­n with the biggest rise in cattle returning to the paddock or to feedlots.

Trade were in limited supply and sold well. Export cows sold to improved rates.

Yearling heifers account Hansen Family Trust sold for 292.2c/kg weighing 275kg to return $806.

Euro x Yearling steers account Hansen Family Trust sold for 332.2c/kg weighing 252kg to return $837.

Riverslea Cattle Co sold Pasture heifers for 288.2c/kg weighing 312kg to return $900.

Graham Isbell, Coulson sold Feeder steers for 313.2c/kg weighing 514kg to return $1610.

Duncan Walpole, Innisplain sold Feeder steers for 321.2c/kg weighing 357kg to return $1147.

A Elsebach, Gayndah sold Grain Accredited heifers for 295.2c/kg weighing 449kg to return $1325.

Dairy Culls account E& T Grazing sold for 205.2c/kg weighing 565kg to return $1159.

ROMA STORE

A TOTAL of 6145 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 438c/kg and averaged 385c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 414c/kg and averaged 356c/kg.

Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 386c/kg and averaged 335c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 342c/kg and averaged 311c/kg.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 327c/kg and averaging 296c/kg.

M.J & B.P Gobbert, Amboola, Mitchell, sold Droughtmas­ter steers to 438c/kg for 187kg to return $823/head.

RH, MR & FL Miller, North Kooringa, Roma, sold Angus steers to 414c/kg for 256kg to return $1060.

A.M & N Swan, Springtime, Wallumbill­a, sold Droughtmas­ter cows to 234c/kg for 565kg to return $1324.

Cows and Calves topped at $1,840/unit, averaging $1,438/unit.

B& F Hartnell, Nullawurt, Roma, sold Droughtmas­ter cows and calves for $1840/unit.

WARWICK CATTLE

THE supply of stock remained very close to the previous week’s level.

A good panel of buyers was present and operating with some additional export processor support in the cow section.

Restockers were once again very active on all classes of light weight cattle following more rain across the supply area.

Feeder operators also lifted prices on yearling steers to feed for the domestic market.

Heavy grown steers and

bullocks experience­d very little change in price.

Most classes of cows were dearer with renewed interest from restockers as well as export processors and average prices improved by 4c to 8c/kg.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 397.2c with mixed sex calves mostly around 350c/kg.

Vealer steers sold to restockers at an average close to 370c with some to 379.2c/kg.

Well bred vealer heifers experience­d strong demand from restockers and made to 365.2c with a fair sample averaging 357c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 341c and made to 370c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed mostly sold around 313c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock averaged 301c and made to 319.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed as well as the local trade market averaged 295c with some to 312.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers made to 290.2c to average 283c and a few bullocks made to 287.21c/kg.

Plain condition cows returning to the paddock made to 211.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows to processors averaged 210c and made to 216.2c/kg.

The best of the medium weight cows made to 237.2c to average 229c/kg.

Good heavy cows mostly sold close to 230c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 277.2c/kg.

Bulls up to 400kg reached

398c/kg and averaged 288c/kg.

DALBY CATTLE

Heavy falls of rain throughout the supply area resulted in numbers being reduced by 750 for a yarding of 3319 head at the Dalby saleyards last Wednesday.

The yarding consisted of good numbers of heavy yearling cattle, while there was a good supply of grown cattle.

Quality of the young cattle was fairly good with several runs of well-bred and conditione­d cattle offered.

The market for heavy restocker and feeder cattle couldn’t maintain last week’s prices, with medium weight feeder steers selling to a top of 339c to average 307c, and restockers topped at 344c/kg.

The feeder heifers sold to 286c to average 283c/kg.

However, light restocker yearlings and vealer restocker steers and heifers sold to a dearer trend.

Restocker vealer steers topped at 406c to average 382c and restocker vealer heifers sold to 346c to average 325c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle consisted of a good supply of bullocks, steers and heifers, while cows were also in fair numbers.

Quality was good in a stronger market, with bullocks and steers selling from 262c to 287c, and heifers sold to a top of 281c/kg.

The cow market improved by 4c to 5c, some sales more with 3 score medium weights under 500kg averaging 220c and heavy cows sold to a top of 235c/kg.
