Introducing the 2017 Audi Centre Toowoomba Weetwood

-

The hottest tickets in town for Saturday, April 8 will be for the Audi Centre Toowoomba Weetwood. Toowoomba’s biggest and brightest race day event continues to grow and is a shining star on Queensland’s horseracing calendar, thanks to its inclusion in the 2017 Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.

This year’s event is again elevated to the national stage, with metropolitan-style racing in our own backyard.

It is an opportunity for Toowoomba to shine and showcase our strong, local racing industry.

The Audi Centre Toowoomba Weetwood will officially kick off the 2017 Queensland Winter Racing Carnival before it heads to Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ipswich and the Sunshine Coast racing venues. With more than $600,000 in prize money on offer, this year marks the 127th official running of the iconic Weetwood Handicap race.

The Darling Downs community embraced last year’s event, featuring horses from former local trainer Tony Gollan and well-known Sydney trainer Bjorn Baker.

Local horses certainly staked their claim as champions of the turf at last year’s event, with the Ben Currie-trained Honey Toast setting a new track record in the Toowoomba Cup, after some

dominating performances in Brisbane in the weeks previous.

Locals also particularly enjoyed the celebrity guests, with former My Kitchen Rules contestants “The Miner Diners”, Alex and Gareth, proving a hit in the GC Event Hire Fashion Passport, together with former Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo and Queensland State Of Origin coach Kevin Walters.

As one of Australia’s oldest sprint handicaps in Australia, the Weetwood Handicap is already a stand-out event for the region and in 2017 will again see a variety of annual events and activities. The popular Ladbrokes Corporate Weetwood golf day returns and local schools have also once again embraced the annual Horse Colouring Competition, thanks to Browns Office Choice.

The annual Ladbrokes Weetwood Calcutta event is now a Friday sportsman’s lunch event, featuring former Queensland football great Alfie Langer as guest speaker.

With so much to look forward to — from the Weetwood Week community-based and corporate events, to the big day itself, the Audi Centre Toowoomba Weetwood is certain to be a show-stopping occasion.
