BEAUTIFUL fabric and a simple cut.

That’s all you need to make a gorgeous garment, according to Toowoomba designer Alexander Kennedy.

The Bridge St designer, who has been in the industry for 30 years, specialises in special occasion wear, bridal wear and designer race wear.

His focus is on finding the perfect fabric - he only buys from New York City and the United Kingdom - and then tailoring it into the perfect piece for his clients.

Mr Kennedy is working on two special pieces that will feature in this year’s Ekka’s 2017 Natural Fibres Fashion Parades.

It will feature about 27 women’s and menswear designers from across Queensland interpreting natural fibres of cotton, wool, silk and leather.

New additions include a student design competition, an educational Fibre to

Fashion conversation series, a Maker’s Market and a dual runway.

Event director Laura Churchill said it was an exciting year for Ekka fashion, with parade viewers gaining a better understanding of the links between farm to runway.

“We have everything from student fashion to emerging designers, one of which will launch her collection at Ekka, through to the most recognisable names in Queensland fashion represented on the runway,” she said.

“It’s sure to be a really inspirational show.”
