Victory Dance throws jockey after triumph

- Gerard Walsh WARWICK DAILY NEWS

A fall 100 metres after winning race one at Allman Park yesterday was a bitter-sweet moment for jockey Sally Sweeney.

While she wasn’t badly injured, Sweeney hit the turf after steering the Rex Lipp-trained Victory Dance to a win in the Warwick Vet Clinic QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap over 1100m.

Straight after winning, Victory Dance headed towards the outside of the track dislodging his jockey before going through the running rail and being caught in a house yard opposite the racecourse.

Warwick Turf Club president Phil Grant said Sweeney was suffering from lower back pain when taken by ambulance to Warwick Hospital to be checked out after the fall.

Victory Dance ($3.60) beat home Red Haze ($10) by a head in what was a close finish to start the day.

Toowoomba trainer Lipp was represented by Roger Milne on a day at Warwick’s seven-race TAB meeting.

Milne said he was confident Victory Dance would run well.

“Victory Dance is a real trier and is only learning. He was in front in the straight, was then headed but fought back to win. It was a great ride by Sally,” Milne said.

Milne came to Warwick with two horses and also had a third with Rejuvenate in the Blue Chip Accounting Maiden Handicap over 1200-metres.

The race was won by one of the top jockeys from Brisbane, James Orman, riding Limbo Star.

Warwick trainer Norm Hilton won race three with Had Me At Hello victorious in the Gross Wholesale Meats Fillies and Mares Benchmark 58 Handicap (1200m).

Southern Downs jockey Paul Hamblin also tasted success in the Southern Downs AG Colts, Geldings and Entires Benchmark 58 Handicap (1200m) on board Starwood.

Despite carrying 63.5kg, Starwood ($4) edged out Mr Boxvale ($4.80) by a nose for Warwick trainer John W Collins.
