INDOOR CRICKET: Lyle Teske and Blake Anderson are at opposite ends of the experience spectrum but will both represent Queensland at the Indoor Cricket National Championships in Mackay.

Teske will captain Queensland for the week-long tournament from Saturday in what will be his 16th appearance in the state open men’s team.

Anderson on the other hand will make his open men’s debut after coming through the ranks as a junior.

“I’m looking forward to the experience,” Anderson said.

“Back when I was a young fella watching these open boys run around, it was always a dream of mine to take the court as a Queensland open player and I can’t wait for the experience.”

Anderson has been out of state squads for a few years but has impressed for the Toowoomba Dragons in the new National Indoor Cricket League south-east Queensland competition this year.

Teske is keen to see his fellow Toowoomba talent step up to open level.

“It’s really exciting to see a young guy like Blake get his chance to play,” Teske said. “He’s put in some hard work over the past years and that’s paid off.

“I’m really pumped for him and I hope he goes well, which I’m sure he will.”

Teske also says the excitement at playing at nationals never gets old.

“I think this is number 16 for me. I never get sick of it. I always get excited this time of year and I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.

And as captain, Teske thinks Queensland is a chance to take out the title.

“As a whole I think it’s probably one of the strongest teams we’ve had for a while,” he said.

“Our batting is going to be our real strength.

“If we can bowl well, I think we’re in a good spot to take it out again.”

Fellow Dragons Jeremy Crighton and Lachlan Stricklen will also play in the Queensland under 21 team.
